Behind the Scenes: Bertelsmann HR Services Internship Blog
Meet our Interns at Bertelsmann HR Services
HR Services at Bertelsmann has put together our list of interns and asked them to blog about their experiences working for a recruiting services department at a major media company.
Our interns work on many projects that are connected to the daily functions of our business units in the book publishing, music publishing, TV production, online and service units.
This is a great opportunity to hear first hand what its like to work across Bertelsmann from the people who are in the internships!
Miguel @ Bertelsmann!
Luckily I got an interview with the Bertelsmann HR Services department and got the job! Now I’ve been a part of the team for almost two weeks and I can’t start telling how much fun I’ve had. At first I was a bit nervous of how the whole experience was going to be, maybe I was not going to be able to perform the tasks they gave me, or maybe I was not going to have any responsibilities and it was going to be two boring months. I really had no idea what to expect.
It has been great! The whole team; Mio, Freddie, Chris and all the interns are all really cool people who are working in such a relaxed environment. I’m learning way more than I could have expected and I feel that I’m a part of the team already. They really get you involved in any project that they have at the moment, and trust me there is always something going on.
One of my favorite things about working here, (other than the work) is the location of the building and the building itself. We are located probably in one of the coolest areas in Manhattan. For those of you who enjoy a good lunch, you will be extremely happy if you ever get to work here. There are so many great places around; you won’t be eating the same thing twice!

My life is a fairytale
To start my blogging career I thought I would tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Nina Lemic, I am from Sweden where I am at my senior year studying Service Management, Retail Management. Currently I am on the IIB program, which means that I have been studying at The State University of New York at New Paltz for two months and last Monday I started my internship at Bertelsmann HR Services where I am going to stay for two months. My blog is mostly going to be about my internship and the experiences I get here, but also about my life in NYC and all the things that this amazing city offers.
So, what have I been doing for the past two weeks? My first week was mostly about getting to know the company, its different branches, their work and websites. Social media is an important part of my work and I am now a proud member of more social media than I knew existed:) I have also learnt how important social media has become for companies, and how many advantages there is to gain. Since I belong to a group of 17 people and everybody is having different internships I can not resist comparing mine with my friends. Many of my friends have been working with standardized, basic tasks like organizing files in alphabetical order or steaming clothes. What I believe makes this internship different and outstanding is that my tasks here help me develop skills that I think are going to help me a lot in my future career. Still, the absolutely best thing about my internship has been my coworkers. The atmosphere in the office is great and we really have a lot of fun together!
About my life in NY, it is amazing and I have fallen in love with this city. I start my days by taking a walk around the big lake in Central Park, which has become my new favorite activity. Among other things I have also been to; a comedy club, a rooftop restaurant, a discussion about the future of women’s fashion with Ashley Olsen and other important fashion specialists, and a career cruise with very nice people and the most wonderful view ever.
This is it for this time, I hope you enjoyed the reading and I’ll update you all soon again.
Enjoy your Halloween weekend,
- Nina Lemic

Wendy's Second Week and Ssecond blog!
It is officially my second week at Bertelsmann and do I dare say “it has been a roller coaster week”. This week (10/11-10/17) threw a lot of bumps at me and I’m not sure I can say I made it out with out any bruises. This week marked the mid point in my college semester which meant midterms.
In my opinion midterm week is one of the worst weeks a college student faces. It is a 7 days period where all the professors decide to conspire and make papers/projects/ assignments due and tests given on the same day. Although Monday, being a holiday (Christopher Columbus day) kick started the week off slow, the pace didn’t carry on through out the rest of the week. On Tuesday I tried not to let the 7am-10pm school day wear me down, yet by the time I got home at 12am I was too tired to even eat dinner. Wednesday rolled around but this Wednesday wasn’t the typically Wednesday it was October 14, the day of our first briefing with Mio, back in the office and full of Ideas from Germany. It was also the day of my 21st birthday. Celebration of this memorable occasion was cut short in order to prepare for my presentation and exams for the next day. Thursday rolled around and the lack of sleep and extreme stress from midterms wore me down. With the (midterm) week winding down, it brings me to today: Friday. And I couldn’t’ summarize this day better then TGIF (Thank God It’s Friday)
On top of all the events it has been a very cold week in NY. So wish me warmth when I participate in the annual Breast Cancer Walk this Sunday!

Windy Wednesday Afternoon
Today is a windy afternoon in the city, but it is still beautiful out. Thank goodness because this probably won't last for long. It is already October! I have been here for probably a month now.
I did already have to miss a day because of a cold I have been trying to get over since this past weekend. It was horrible being so sick. I am glad it is finally over.
Today was a good day though we had our presentations of what we have been doing and just keep the team updated. We also all went to lunch to have some burgers. Viktoria, one of the other interns at Bertelsmann HR services, is on a mission to try hamburgers from a lot of places around the city. Since she has to go back to germany at the end of the semester. Well it is the end of the day, time to go home!
I'll Update again sooon!

Wendy's first day!
I thought I’d spend my first blog introducing a little about myself. My name is Wendy Eng. I am currently in pursuit of my Bachelors of Science in Public Relations and Asian Studies, with a concentration in International Communications, at St. John’s University. I am a new intern at the Bertelsmann Human Resources Services, North America office.
Today was the first day on the job and I’m excited. I . . .
1. Spent my day attempting to get into the loop of Bertelsmann’s world! Exploring the office and building (especially the pantry- finding my way to the coffee machine and 2 draws labeled: Freddie’s in the fridge.).
2. Conquered my fear of taking photo’s as I got my I.D card.
3. Went out for lunch, to discover Whole food’s sushi.
4. Got acquainted with Digsby and am loving it’s onigiri looking icon.
5. Ended my day with this blog, marking off my task list of the day, and learning more about new media.
If you haven’t seen/met me in the office yet stop by and say hi or feel free to message me on Facebook!
I had a lovely first day and want to thank my new co-workers/ cubicle neighbors (Chris, Freddie, Mike, Viktoria and Mio-currently out of the office physically but here in spirit) for the warm welcomes and making me feel at home.
Can’t wait to see what my next day has in store for me,
Wendy Eng

My Second Week at Bertelsmann
My Name is Kathleen Rios and it is my second week at Bertelsmann. I am a senior at St. John's university. My major is mass communications with a minor in business.
Getting an internship is really important for every career path, i was very excited when I got the internship at Bertelsmann because of their great reputation as one of the world's largest media companies. I am very excited to finally be here.
I am from Great Neck, NY so commuting to the city for a job is very different for me. I love the location and the whole vibe from the city. It's great.
I am looking forward to the different tasks we will get to do, I know this will be a great learning experience.
Well that's enough for now.
Hope everyone's day is going as well as mine!

My second week...
My name is Viktoria, I am 21 years old and I am the new intern at Bertelsmann, Inc. I started my internship 2 weeks ago, but it feels like I have just arrived. The time goes by really fast. I am always on the go since there is so much to see. I have visited New York a couple of times, but I still find new places – for shopping, to relax and to hang out. I am really enjoying the city and the work I am doing.
Due to the fact, that I am studying International Business and Management Studies, it was very important to me to find a company which is first of all internationally oriented and second gives me the opportunity to put the theory, gained during my studies, into practice. Bertelsmann, Inc. combines both criteria and even goes a step further. It helps me not only to apply this theory but it also challenges me to deal with new things. I am experiencing media and marketing at the same time, which is new to me. But it is very interesting how you can combine these two fields.
This was a short introduction, you can be sure that I will write more blogs in future.
Have a nice weekend.
