My life in a nutshell:

My grandfather was Cotton Owens, one of NASCAR's fifty greatest drivers, so racing has always been in my genes. I have been racing since I was 14 years-old, and I have won more than 100 career features in everything from Dwarf cars to Late Models on dirt.

I made a deal with my family that if I attended college, they would continue to let me race whenever I wanted. So I graduated, met my wife, and now I have a great job working with great people.

Whether I am golfing with coworkers, going out to dinner, or just hanging out, the relationships I have made at work are truly invaluable to me.

My career goals are to simply excel in whatever I do. If I feel as if I'm doing my job to the best of my ability, the cards will fall as they may. I want to look back on my life with no regrets and when I retire just relish in the memories and the satisfaction that I did all I could, when I could do it.

Describe your educational background. Where did you study, what degrees did you receive?

After enrolling in the engineering program at USC, I switched majors and received a B.S. in business administration. Also, I received my master's degree from the School of Hard Knocks.

Describe your career history. What are your professional experiences prior to your current position?

I started as an order puller in a wallpaper warehouse part-time while attending college. Upon graduation, I was promoted to Distribution Manager until the warehouse was moved to Quebec. I can’t ice skate or ski, so I pursued other opportunities locally and found this position with Arvato Services.

What are your current roles and responsibilities?

Currently, I am responsible for the day-to-day order fulfillment of all Intuit, Riverdeep, and Canon DTC orders as well as Pinnacle retail orders.

Describe a typical day at your job.

A typical day entails fast-paced order fulfillment from among a wide variety of clients. Software and hardware is shipped from our warehouse. It’s just a matter of positioning the right people in the right places at the right time to maximize productivity. I also utilize SAP daily to track the status of orders to ensure timely shipping.

What attracted you to your company and position? What is your favorite thing about your job?

Knowing that Arvato was a global company, I was anxious to get my foot in the door. Also, the Arvato name was synonymous in this area with being an excellent employer. If there is one thing I like about my job more than anything else, it’s the people with whom I work. From my superiors to my subordinates, I look forward to working with them day in and day out.

What has been your most memorable moment (so far) in your job?

I would have to say the day the ink line busted on our Levamatic machine. It carried green permanent ink and there were about four of us who looked like The Hulk that day. It took me three days to wash that off my skin.

What qualities do you feel are necessary to be a successful employee at your company?

Honesty, perseverance and a positive attitude.

Have you had the opportunity to travel as part of your job?

Once I went to Indianapolis to facilitate in the closing of a warehouse.

Do you feel you have a good understanding of Bertelsmann and its corporate culture?

Yes, I think I have a good understanding of the culture. I think our culture promotes unity in the community among different ethnicities and backgrounds. We enjoy working together but at the same time we know when it's time to put it into another gear, so to speak. Our team speaks through our results, not individuals, and we encourage improvement to our colleagues through positive reinforcement, not derogatory comments. All in all, it’s a great culture and atmosphere.
