Meet Carey in Call Center Operations

Name: Carey
Company: arvato digital services Canada, inc.
Title: Operations Supervisor
Location: Kitchener, Ontario

My life in a nutshell:

Coming from a background of design and architecture, my hobbies and interests mostly include pop culture and fine art. I love painting with oils and photography.

I also hold a large interest in music and have played the piano since the age of ten. I love nothing more than live music of any kind.

I recently got the chance to take a solo trip to Japan, after years of planning. It has definitely changed me and opened my eyes to a whole new view of the world.

I am also attempting to learn Japanese, so hopefully that will help me in the near future when I get to go back!

Describe your educational background. Where did you study? What degrees did you receive?

Before coming to Arvato, I was a design student at Humber College in Etobicoke, Ontario. At Humber I studied Interior Design and Anthropometrics.

Describe your career history. What were your professional experiences prior to your current position?

Coming straight from college, I don’t have any previous professional experience. This is my first entry-level position with a company this size.

What are your current roles and responsibilities?

I am currently an Operations Supervisor with the Xbox Live account. We are in the middle of Launch, so I am currently training and setting up the production floor, the agent teams, and the daily operations.

Describe a typical day at your job.

At the beginning of my day, I always meet with my team to see how the morning shift has started off and see if there are any pending issues at hand. The majority of my day consists of meeting with my team of agents, conducting one-on-one coaching sessions, and managing the production floor.

What attracted you to your company and position? What is your favorite thing about your job?

When I originally saw the posting for Arvato, I was interested in the fact that it was a young, small company with lots of room to grow and diversify. When I decided to take the plunge and apply, I met some very dynamic people throughout my interview process and was excited instantly. Today, my favorite part of my job is still the people. It’s what got me here and why I stay. There is nothing better than coming in and interacting with my team of agents. It is definitely the best part of my day.

What has been your most memorable moment (so far) in your job?

I guess I would have to say some of the “team activities” that have been acted out on the floors. Occasionally the team decides to “decorate” one or more desks, for random events on the floor, and there have certainly been some that will not be forgotten. I will never forget the saran wrap!

What qualities do you feel are necessary to be a successful employee at your company?

Professionalism, integrity, determination, dedication, positive attitude/influence, and a bit of a crazy sense of humor always helps too.

Have you had the opportunity to travel as part of your job?

I am still awaiting my chance to be sent off to a faraway place for work, training, or just some fun. Someday I’m sure my ship will come.

Do you feel you have a good understanding of Bertelsmann and its corporate culture?

I always try and keep up-to-date on anything new with Bertelsmann. I always take pride in my employer and like to be up on current events within the company. I think I have grasped the culture of Arvato, and I’m learning the culture of Bertelsmann more and more every day.
